THE “5 SECOND RULE” CHALLENGE

Have you heard of the book by Mel Robbins called The 5 Second Rule?

If you haven’t, it’s pretty amazing and definitely worth a read. In her book, Mel talks all about how she used her “5 Second Rule” to get herself out of a devastating slump and take her life, career, and relationships to incredible heights. (the audiobook is fab)

Here’s the short of it: The 5 second rule will beat hesitation every time. It beats procrastination. It helps you to be more courageous and overcome fear! Sounds too good to be true, right?

Well, it’s actually scientifically backed and is PROVEN to be an effective strategy… and the beautiful thing is… everyone can do it, and it won’t cost you a dime.

Here’s how it works: The moment you have an instinct to act on something (ANYTHING)….. count backwards from 5 (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) and then PHYSICALLY do something to act on that instinct!

It basically tricks your brain to prevent you from talking yourself ‘out of something’- and teaches you to trust your instincts.

Here’s an example: Let’s say MATT DAMON walks into the restaurant you’re eating at. He’s alone and sits over at the bar. He’s one of your favorite actors, and you’re dying to go up to him and let him know how much you enjoy his movies.

Well, your brain is thinking…. “Ahh, people probably go up to him all the time, and I don’t want to bother him. I’d probably just annoy him and he wants some peace and quiet.” and that conversation in your head continues.

Then his friends walk in… and you’re definitely not going to go over and interrupt him now. Before you know it, he and his friends have finished their drinks, and they leave. You’ve LOST your chance to meet him and your fear got in the way of a really cool opportunity to meet one of your favorite actors.

Bummer. The 5 second rule would have fixed that. If you saw Matt Damon walk in, counted back from 5, and then started walking over to meet him… you wouldn’t have missed your chance!

The point is, you can do this in EVERY area of your life! You don’t have to let fear, procrastination, or hesitation get the better of you EVER AGAIN.

Have an inspiration to workout? 5-4-3-2-1 it and put on your workout clothes. See that chocolate cake staring at you in the window, but you know it’s not what you need right now? 5-4-3-2-1 it and start walking away.
